--RHP Jeff Gray was sent down to Class AAA Sacramento to make room for RHP Santiago Casilla's return from the disabled list. Gray retired the only batter he faced after being called up Saturday. He has a 7.71 ERA in six career big-league outings.
--RHP Santiago Casilla will be activated for Friday's game at Detroit after missing 14 games with a right knee sprain. Casilla has allowed a .079 opponents' average, among the best in the league when he was placed on the disabled list. He hasn't allowed a run in his past seven outings. --RHP Michael Wuertz has retired the past 19 batters he has faced and he has not walked a batter in 16 of his 17 appearances this season. He has stranded all 10 of his inherited runners and the first hitters he has faced are 1-for-17.
MEDICAL WATCH:
RHP Santiago Casilla (sprained right knee) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 29. He began a rehab assignment with Class A Stockton on May 9, and he was activated May 15.
LHP Dallas Braden (sore left hand) was hit by a line drive May 10 but kept pitching and is not expected to miss a start, although it tentatively has been pushed back a day.
LHP Brett Anderson (blister on left index finger) left his April 28 and May 4 starts because of the ailment. He missed his May 9 start, and he is questionable for his next start.
3B Eric Chavez (sore right forearm and elbow) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 25. He was slowed by a back ailment in early May, pushing back his possible return to late May.
INF Nomar Garciaparra (strained right calf) went on the 15-day disabled list April 29. The injury had dogged him for weeks. He might be activated May 15 or soon after.
2B Mark Ellis (left calf strain) went on the 15-day disabled list April 29. He will miss four to six weeks.
RHP Justin Duchscherer (arthroscopic elbow surgery in March 2009) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on April 29. He could resume pitching in late May. There is a chance that when he is able to throw off the mound, he will be moved into the bullpen to try to safeguard his health.
RHP Joey Devine (sore right elbow) went on the 60-day disabled list retroactive to March 31. He had Tommy John surgery April 21, and he is out for the season.
