--RHP Sean Gallagher was recalled from Class AAA Sacramento on Monday and entered the game in the fifth inning in relief of Brett Anderson. The A's have not had a starter last more than six innings in any of the past 11 games. Gallagher pitched extremely well, throwing 3 2/3 innings and allowing three hits and striking out three.

--LHP Jerry Blevins was recalled from Class AAA Sacramento on Monday with the A's bullpen depleted following a 15-inning game Sunday. Blevins had a 3.75 ERA with Sacramento and in his first stint with the A's this year he had a 54.00 ERA. He is the lone left-hander in the A's bullpen.

--INF Eric Patterson was demoted to Class AAA Sacramento on Monday when the A's decided to bring up two relievers for their thin bullpen. INF Gregorio Petit had outplayed Patterson since being called up Friday, going 5-for-11. Patterson was hitting .125.

--LHP Gio Gonzalez was sent down to Class AAA Sacramento on Monday after throwing 108 pitches in relief during the A's 15-inning loss at Seattle the day before. The pitch total was the highest by an A's reliever since pitch counts began to be tracked in 1988.

--OF Ben Copeland, a Rule 5 draftee who is on the A's disabled list with a sore neck and shoulder after hitting the wall making a catch during the spring, is on a minor-league rehab assignment. He went 4-for-9 at Class A Stockton, then reported to Class AAA Sacramento on Monday.

MEDICAL WATCH:

RHP Brad Ziegler (illness) was unavailable for April 30-May 3. He could return on May 4.

LHP Brett Anderson (blister on left index finger) left the April 28 game. He is expected to be ready for his May 4 start.

3B Eric Chavez (strained right elbow, sore right forearm) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 25.

RHP Santiago Casilla (sprained right knee) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 29.

INF Nomar Garciaparra (strained right calf) went on the 15-day disabled list April 29. The injury had dogged him for weeks.

2B Mark Ellis (left calf strain) went on the 15-day disabled list April 29. He will miss four to six weeks.

RHP Justin Duchscherer (arthroscopic elbow surgery in March 2009) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27, and he was transferred to the 60-day DL on April 29. There is a chance that when he is able to throw off the mound, he will be moved into the bullpen to try to safeguard his health. He is expected to return in early May.

OF Ben Copeland (sprained left shoulder) went on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to March 27. Copeland is a Rule 5 draftee from the Giants.

RHP Joey Devine (sore right elbow) went on the 60-day disabled list retroactive to March 31. He had Tommy John surgery April 21, and he is out for the season.
