Oakland Athletics Notes, Quotes 2008-06-30
--RHP Joey Devine (elbow strain) will throw off the mound again Tuesday and he is scheduled to throw a simulated inning later in the week. The reliever is likely to go on a rehab assignment early next week and return just before or just after the All-Star break.

--RHP Brad Ziegler has not given up a run in 13 career outings and on Sunday, he was one of two A's pitchers (out of five) not to allow a run. The 28-year-old rookie has thrown 13 scoreless innings in all -- but he hasn't struck out a batter in three of the 13 appearances. His scoreless streak to start his career is the A's longest to open a career since Steve Chitren's 15 1/3 scoreless innings in Sept. 1, 1990.

--SS Bobby Crosby has started all 82 of Oakland's games, eclipsing his previous career high for consecutive games played, 79 games from May 11-Aug. 8, 2004. Crosby was batting .346 in the seven games before Saturday but went 0-for-6 over the weekend against the Giants.

--OF Ryan Sweeney is likely to play Monday, according to manager Bob Geren. Sweeney sprained his left ankle sliding into home plate on Thursday and he said the swelling had diminished considerably by the weekend. Sweeney also thought Monday was a likely target date.

--3B Eric Chavez said he is working with a physical therapist to adjust his workouts for his sore right shoulder, which was cleaned up surgically in October. Chavez said he is a little concerned about the problem but he hopes to know in the next few days if it is improving. Manager Bob Geren said he hoped to have Chavez back in the lineup on Monday. He has not played third in more than a week.

BY THE NUMBERS: .000 -- A's pinch hitters, hitless over their past 20 at-bats, and 3 for their past 34 (.088). Oakland's last pinch hit came on May 10, by Mike Sweeney at Texas, and the last extra-base hit by an A's pinch hitter was a double by Bobby Kielty on Sept. 22, 2006.

QUOTE TO NOTE: "I wish I could get the DeLorean from 'Back to the Future,' and go back and throw a different pitch." -- A's starter Justin Duchscherer, on the 2-1 fastball that Ray Durham stroked for a double in the Giants' 1-0 win on Saturday, the only hard hit ball of the day for San Francisco.
