--OF Aaron Cunningham was placed on the disabled list at Class AAA Sacramento with a separated shoulder incurred in a collision at home plate, but the injury is not believed to be serious and Cunningham could be back within two weeks or so. Cunningham, who hit .250 in 22 games with the A's at the end of last year, probably would be the first outfielder called up to Oakland if the A's had a need.
--C Landon Powell, 27, made his first major league appearance Saturday and recorded a two-run double in his first at-bat. A first-round pick in 2004, Powell's development was slowed by three knee surgeries and recently diagnosed autoimmune hepatitis, a liver disease that requires daily medication that one day might necessitate a liver transplant. Playing behind Kurt Suzuki, who made 141 appearances behind the plate last year, should limit some wear and tear on Powell, who is a strong defensive player. BY THE NUMBERS: 1 -- Home run total for Oakland through the first week of the season, the fewest in the majors. The team went homerless in the first three games for the first time since 1966. The A's 125 homers last year were fourth fewest in the league, a major reason the team brought in Matt Holliday and Jason Giambi.
