Outfielder Ryan Sweeney is the only member of the club who produced consistently all year long, when healthy.
That is until the past week or so. Sweeney, who was 0-for-3 with two strikeouts Wednesday, is 3-for-26 over the past eight games. His average has dipped under .290, a mark he'd been over much of the season. The rookie, part of the Nick Swisher deal with the White Sox, acknowledged he might be a little tired after his first full big-league season (not counting a rehab assignment).
"It's that time of year," he said. "But you've still got to put together good at-bats, and I haven't been."
Manager Bob Geren noted that Sweeney has played with an ankle injury and hand and wrist injuries much of the way. He said of Sweeney, "He's been pitched pretty tough, they've made some good pitches on him. And he is playing every day and with some minor aches and pains. He's a very tough young guy, he continues to go out and gives everything he's got."
