The A's didn't mind a rainout on Wednesday night in Arlington, Texas, even though it's the third time this season the team has had a game postponed.

Earlier in the day, the A's put infielders Mark Ellis and Nomar Garciaparra on the disabled list, but some other team members were not at full strength, either. Jason Giambi was not available at first base because of hamstring strains, and Eric Chavez wasn't going to play third because of elbow soreness.

The solution to that: Chavez was scheduled to play first base Wednesday, which would have been his first big-league start there. The rain at Texas, however, might have made that plan unnecessary: Giambi said he might be able to play first base Thursday.

The rainout also might be a good thing for right-handed reliever Santiago Casilla (sore calf) and left-handed starter Brett Anderson. Anderson came out of Tuesday night's game with a blister on his index finger, but his next start now has been pushed back to Monday against the Angels.

Wednesday's game will be made up as part of a doubleheader at Texas on May 29. Dallas Braden will start Thursday for Oakland, with Josh Outman, Wednesday's scheduled starter, moved to Sunday at Seattle.
